Summer Solstice

photo of fence line and grassy field with sun behind trees overhanging a gravel road

I saw daybreak on the summer solstice.

As I rode clouds wisped the sky,
morning radiance fell upon me–
the long day of light.

I am without body in the morning sun.

I am in the rays
warming dew from tender blades.

I am in the dove’s call
mourning spring’s retreat

And I am in the shadowed grove
harboring
a wistful night.
